Is it the bad times or is it we are all getting old? Nostalgic art sells three to one over other art forms from the studio. Paintings and even graphic art of things from our past sell better then original art, especially abstract art. Something about old things make us feel comfortable, like Grandma made us feel when she came over to baby sit. Things that we saw growing up that in most cases are not there any more seem to relax us, make us feel something is good. Original art, art of the current day, and bold lines and blotches of color do not sell as well as nostalgia. Even re-done graphic art of old restaurants, bakeries, buildings that are no longer around sell better than abstract art. I am sure some Sociologist would study why or maybe even has already why nostalgia sells. By the time I figure it out I may be post-nostalgia. You know they say an artist is not appreciated until he is gone.
I like my bold lines and blotches of color. Some do have a comfortable meaning to me. I guess I need to try to make them comfortable? I’ll get them to lie nicely on the sofa to see if that helps.
