Rockery Inn, Lakeview, New Orleans

Another teenage restaurant hang out was Rockery Inn at Canal Blvd and Robert E. Lee. A bank is there today. The rear parking lot was enclosed by a brick wall. I drank my first legal beer there the night of my 18th birthday at the stroke of midnight. Never did get the hang of beer but loved the burgers. Would meet friends and make new friends in this community spot when Pontchartrain Beach was still open.

For those old enough to remember Lakeview in the '50's and '60's here is a link to this shirt: https://www.zazzle.com/rockery_inn_t_shirt-235700696324915888?design.areas=%5Bzazzle_shirt_10x12_front%5D&color=lightsteel_da&social=true

And a lot of other gift ideas from Lakeview in New Orleans:

Lenfant's Restaurant, New Orleans

Happy DaysImage via Wikipedia

One of the places I remember growing up in New Orleans is Lenfant's. A family restaurant in the Lakeview neighborhood where you could park in a lot in the back by the cemetery and order food either to go or eat in the car. A spot as teenagers we could hang out and watch "the submarine races". (If I have to explain that phrase then you need to ask a teenager.) Several local restaurants back then served food in cars in a back lot, somewhat like todays "Sonics" or "Arthur's" in "Happy Days" on TV. To honor memories of those days I have several t-shirt designs that sell across the country, mostly people displaced from New Orleans.
