New Orleans Style Coffee and Doughnuts: Beignets
In New Orleans the coffee is blended with chicory, a ground root used to extend the coffee. Some say it makes the coffee taste stronger. Many coffee shops have come and gone in New Orleans but Café du Monde has stayed for well over 100 years. I wonder if Starbucks will last that long. The key is the special doughnuts. French style pastries called "Beignets". As an artist I celebrate my life growing up in New Orleans by painting and creating icons of my city. The coffee and doughnuts have become a part of that culture and part of my art. I have them on posters, cards, invitations, shirts and more.
