The Po Boy sandwich was first made by Clovis and Benjamin Martin, brothers and former streetcar drivers, in 1929 at their Martin Brothers Coffee Stand and Restaurant. During a transit worker's strike the brothers taking pity on those poor boys made sandwiches of left overs on french bread and gave them away.
