Highway 61 Blues Art
US Highway 61 runs from New Orleans to Memphis. Music and people traveled that highway up from New Orleans finally to Chicago, some to escape the heat others oppression. For whatever reason stopping in the cotton fields south of Memphis the Blues was born. Some say the Jazz from New Orleans combined with the slave songs of the cotton fields and from that a new music evolved, the Blues. Today things are different, no one rides a bus or car as much and big hotels are near but for sure the music still lives there along with the old stories. I used to visit often but since Katrina have had little time to run up the highway for a visit. I do cherish the area and have art dedicated to it on my web page.
